AIA New York State Celebrates Architects Driving Change in the Profession with 2024 Honor Awards

Albany, NY – February 11, 2025 – The American Institute of Architects New York State (AIANYS) honored exceptional architects, design professionals and chapter committees at its prestigious 2024 Honor Awards ceremony, held in conjunction with the 2025 Board Installation Dinner on January 30, 2025. This annual event recognizes individuals and organizations whose outstanding contributions have significantly advanced the architectural profession and embody the values of the AIA.

Young Architect Award: Honors architects demonstrating exceptional leadership and contributions to the profession. Nicolette Havrish, AIA: Ms. Havrish is a driving force within the AIA, championing diversity and inclusion, mentoring emerging professionals, and advocating for a more equitable and sustainable built environment. Katherine Serrano Sosa, AIA: As a visionary Latina architect and founder of Rooted Architecture Studio, Ms. Serrano Sosa leads with resilience and inclusivity, creating empowering spaces for diverse communities.

Local Chapter Emerging Professionals Committee Award: Celebrates chapter committees fostering emerging professional development. AIA New York Chapter’s Emerging New York Architects Committee (ENYA): For two decades, ENYA has provided invaluable resources and opportunities for young architects in New York City through programs like the TORCH Mentorship Program and the One-Night Design Sprint.

Matthew W. Del Gaudio Service Award: Recognizes sustained leadership and service to the profession. Graciela Carrillo, FAIA: Ms. Carrillo is a visionary leader who has made significant contributions to the profession, including spearheading the development of a framework for a bias-free profession by 2050 and advocating for immigrant architects.

James William Kideney Gold Medal Award: The highest honor bestowed by AIANYS, recognizing a lifetime of impactful contributions. Gerard F.X. “Guy” Geier II, FAIA: As Managing Partner of FXCollaborative, Mr. Geier has overseen the design of numerous award-winning projects. He is a tireless advocate for the profession, championing social and environmental justice, and nurturing the next generation of architects.
